Project Background
Project Background
This project will result in
improvements to the Lotus Lake shoreline to reduce erosion. The MnDNR awarded
the District a grant of $45,000 for Lotus Lake Shoreline Restoration through
the Shoreline Habitat Restoration Grant Program. The program funds are available July 1, 2011
to June 2013. The District is expected
to match the grant funding with at least $25,000. Items to be covered by the grant funding included
plants, erosion control supplies, signs/education, and labor.
Current Project Status
The shoreline improvements
continue. Plantings appear to be growing
well. Emergent aquatic plant test plots
have been planted a few feet into the water.
Plug plantings were completed at the end of July and early August
followed by extensive watering. Subcontractor
AES will continue monitoring and completing larger maintenance items and spot
treatments as needed. The next planned
volunteer event is seed collection and invasive plant management. Engineer/City
coordination continues.
